Methods

As a scientist with a new rescue puppy, I embarked on a quest to discover the most effective, science-based and humane dog training method, among different ones used in a un-regulated dog training industry.

The more I read into Positive Reinforcement, the more sense it made for a number of reasons:

Encourages desired behaviors: dogs learn to associate their actions with positive outcomes, making dogs more likely to repeat the desired behavior.
Scientific validity: Positive Reinforcement, based on the principles of Classical and Operant Conditioning, has a solid scientific grounding.
It is a method that has been studied extensively and is deeply understood in the field of behavioral psychology.
Builds trust, confidence and the bond between dog and owner, encouraging dogs to be more confident in their actions.
Promotes problem solving: as the method encourages the dog to think and make the right choices.
Long-term success: Positive Reinforcement creates lasting changes in dog behavior, as dogs enjoy the training process and feel motivated to cooperate.
Stress reduction: punishment-based methods can instill fear and anxiety in dogs, leading to stress and aggression.
Positive Reinforcement methods don’t use any form of intimidation or harm to the dog, instead your dog will enjoy training.
Ethical and humane: The method is based on respect for the dog’s wellbeing and consideration as a sentient being.

In summary, the methods I use are not only backed up by science and achieve effective training results, but also create a loving, respectful and enjoyable training experience for both you and your dog.
